Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving goes down in history for the top 3 weirdest days of my life. And I hope my explanations will do it justice. (For all my HIMYM fans, it was a blitz day. Except neither of us were the blitz)
It all started with the metro. We have been trying to take the metro more to save miles and talk to more people! We split up on the metro car to talk with different people. I sat down on the front half and saw a man signing to his phone through face time. When his call was over I got real excited and whipped out my High school ASL skills. Long story short, the ASL elders are teaching him now!!
Once we arrived to king street we met a sir named Xavier. He was an interesting feller. He said he was planning on spending the holiday alone so we invited him join us for our meal!
Then we met Nathan. He was rolling a suit case so naturally we assume he is headed to the airport to visit family for the holiday. We quickly realize he is a homeless dude. (My favorite) He was the most chill guy I've ever met "I don't even know why I'm so happy right now, perhaps just feeding off the energy of Old Town." Love it. We invited him to join us as well!
Later in the afternoon we went to a members house (who was my 10th grade math teacher) for our dinner. Xavier and Nathan BOTH showed up to her house! (Realizing after maybe that wasn't very safe. Ah.) It was a wonderful dinner and the women (and Abdul) that were there are all so great, I love my ward so much. We went around the table and all said something we are thankful for. Xavier and Nathan said they were thankful not to be spending the holiday alone again. Which was adorable and just warms your little heart. After a few minutes into our meal Xavier starts making some comments that.. well... they were very very offensive. I am not going to repeat them. It sufficeth me to say all social norms were obliterated. It was one of those moments where you just have to sit back and soak it in because your jaw is on the floor. It's already too late and you might as well take as much in so you can laugh about it later.
That night I saw the best moon I've ever seen in my life. (At least since Halloween of 2015. Sister Reid, do you remember?)
A quote from later in the evening: "You two must be latter day saints (following the prophet) you is the only people I know crazy enough to be outside in 19 degree weather." -a random sir (he wouldn't tell us his name because it isn't important to his salvation..)
Whilst leaving a neighborhood we see an old man, I'm thinking "awh, a cute old man!" Lol. Nope. He RUNS up to the window so I roll it down.. "you ladies are not supposed to be here!! You better leave I have a tow truck coming!"
"But, we are in visitors parking.."
"Doesn't matter you aren't supposed to be here!!"
"Okay, happy thanksgiving!"
He was the angriest old man. Someone needs to love him more.
We ended the night in Old Town (favorite). We saw a fox trot! Literally! A fox trotted across the sidewalk and into an alley.
We turn the corner and Sister Minaker gets bear hugged by a drunk man! We get cornered by four of them, giggle a little, share a scripture, and manage to slip out along the wall.
The next day we got an email from Nathan saying "On Friday Eve I shall continue my travels." He wants to head west to follow the birds. [??] *And they never saw Nathan again.

The topic of 'why God allows suffering' or 'if God is so good why do I suffer?' seems to have been brought up a lot this week. After a lot of different opinions and some studies of my own I realized in a brighter light "The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." (Exodus 14:14) All of life's unfairness all becomes fair in Christ.
And I love this scripture "He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation." (2 Nephi 26:24)

I love you all and hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

Much Love, Sister Izzy Smith
